Re: Odell Saturday?
Most people will be fishing on the west end of the lake in West Bay. Sometimes they will be down by Princess Creek or the railroad slide. Jigging seems to be the most effective early season tactic with trolling picking up a little later as the water starts to warm. Hopefully the fish will be on top so you can cast to jumpers. If you troll I would fish these same areas. A pink and white Gibb's would be a good place to start if you are jigging. If you want more info you can PM me. Have a good time and catch a bunch.

Catch a whole bunch... That way they may get to a decent size this year...

We saw no jumpers yesterday, (pretty rough). We saw scattered jumpers today. I don't think we marked as many fish as years past. They were mostly scattered and deep. It was beautiful today but the fishing was tough. Ended up with 4 kokes.

Re: Odell Saturday?
Its been a couple of years for me. When I used to go it would be so hit and miss. It will be time to make a trip out there soon though!! I am a little dissapointed to hear that folks were not marking much.

Re: Odell Saturday?
Though not many were jumping, LOTS of them were cruising near surface, easy to overlook as surface clutter on the sonar. And there were mackinaw there too. We saw one clear as day cruise by next to the boat. marked lots of kokanee around 120', no doubt biding their time for warmer water. Getting close...

Re: Odell Saturday?
Going to fish Odell this coming Friday thru Monday. Me and a buddy have a cabin at Shelter cove resort. Hoping to catch a few kokes on jigs and we are planning to troll a bit also. I have heard that the lake has a fair population of Rainbows also. I have never caught one there but will try again this weekend. Will post a report next week.

I'll be staying at the yurts at Crescent this weekend as well. I might see you on Sunday at Odell...you'll recognize me as I'll be in my kayak with too much gear.

Re: Odell Saturday?
Fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Koke fishing was very, very slow. Most folks I talked to had none to very few.The boats that were fishing for Macks did quite a bit better. I saw a few in the 15lb. range at the cleaning station at Shelter cove . A couple of guys in the cabin next door were mack fishing and had landed nine or ten fish that averaged ten or eleven pounds. They were C&R fishing and caught their fish flatlining plugs. We trollled and cast jigs and did poor on both methods. We did see fish up top the few times that the wind was down. The weather was really foul and fishing from an open 14ft skiff was not fun. We stayed at Shelter Cove resort, and I have to say that this is one of the cleanest, and best run operations I have ever stayed at. The cabins are super clean and the staff is very nice. Made up for the poor fishing. I hope to try it again soon and hope for better fishing and weather.

Re: Odell Saturday?
Appears the weather & water temps at Odell have shut down the koke fishing. I have tried in these conditions in previous yrs and always found the fish had serious lockjaw. My problem is that I have a cabin at Odell for 5/11 to 5/13. Don't see much in the way of warm weather between now & then. So, should I cancel or not? Is it reasonable to hope things will get better in a week? I would rather lose my deposit than pay for 2 more days of no catching. Any Odell experts (maybe Moknots?) help appreciated. I guess the water must be warmer over at Wickiup.

Re: Odell Saturday?
We fished Crescent Sat and Sun in the wind and chop and had not a single bite. We tried everything from flatlining plugs to dropping deep with cannonballs. I only heard of 1 mac caught all weekend.
On the plus side, the new yurts are cozy and warm with a tiny wood stove. The raccoons, on the other hand, were not very good hosts around dinner time...

FAR from an Odell expert as I have fished it only the last 3 years or so, and more for mackinaw than kokanee, but I sure wouldn't give up a trip in Mid May. If the kokanee don't cooperate, catch and release some macks, or make the short trip to Crescent, which is smaller and can warm up easier, or drive the 25 miles to Wickiup BUT, I have a hunch you could cache in on the magic of the first good bite. Water temp is huge, but wildlife cycles are also triggered by increasing amounts of daylight, so I wouldn't bank on water temp alone.

Re: Odell Saturday?
For many years our group has been at O'dell in mid May and 95 percent of the time the Kokanee bite has been wonderful. We have fished in 70 degree weather and also fished in snow storms so bad you could not see the other end of your boat.
Dont give up on O'dell in mid may, Just keep trying everything you have and look at all parts of the lake. Try and spot jumpers, and cast Gibbs Minnows to them, in all different colors. And dont forget in the afternoon when the wind begins to blow, you can wind drift the entire lake. When you find the bite, turn around and go back through them.
Good luck and probably see you there in mid May

I dont consider myself an expert, but the last few years the bite has come on later and later. I have not seen a direct relationship between water temp and the bite turning on. I can say, if you catch the early bite you will have alot of fun.
Good Luck.
