What a strange contraption. If you do a google search this company is still around. I'm not sure that I have the patience to use one of these, but its a pretty neat idea. Thanks for posting.

I had such a device many, many years ago. I never broke a rod tip using it and if used properly it should be safe.

On the other hand, I have broke rod tips on snags without using any device...

I have one of these and use it regularly...it works great and I have never broken a rod using it. It is great to have when you're down to the last fly of a pattern that's working for you.

I think I'll get another since the company is still in business.
