cutting tufline?
What's the best way to cut tufline? The old standby fingernail clippers don't come close. Great way to ruin scissors. Exacto knife is OK in the garage, but on a boat might require medical attention. Suggestions...?

Re: cutting tufline?
I have a pair of small Fiskers scissors that fit in my Holdzit Dual sheath along with my pliers ... dedicated to tuffline and cheap enough to replace every year or two.

Replace your regular Leatherman with a PULSE and you have the perfect sissors you need, plus you still have your leatherman. Can I say leatherman on this??????? Ray

Re: cutting tufline?
The best tool for cutting tuff etc is a pair of kid safe scissors like they use in kindergarten etc.
Nice blunt nose so no accidental wounds or harm to cloths or boat and they work awesome.
I have a real nice pair with molded plastic grips for the last 6 mos and cost was affordable $2.59..If you read the box info it's what they advise to cut with

cigarette lighter works great, and seals it from fraying.

Re: cutting tufline?
children's fiskar scissors on a retractable leash (preferably purple).
I was talking to a PowerPro rep at a fishing show a couple of years ago and he said that that's what they use in the factory. Well, maybe not the color.

Re: cutting tufline?
Kershaw knifes makes a small pair designed for Tuff and PowerPro lines.I bought mine for about $5.00 at their knife show in Wilsonvill. You might give them a call in Wilsonvill.

Re: cutting tufline?
Scissors are great. I use the mini-Gerber tool scissors. The little letter openers that use a razor with a plastic gaurd work slick, too. Safe, sharp and easily replaceable.
Burning the end with a lighter gives a little insurance that you knot will not pull through itself. Just make a melted ball at the end.

Re: cutting tufline?
What Silver Hilton said.
$20 for a glorified Bic lighter? (Powerzap) You gotta be kidding me.

I got a Zap out of bass pro. Had it for several years. Only replaced battery once. Great idea.

Re: cutting tufline?
Ampersat- No, I'm not kidding!
Just like any other useful tool, once you use it a few times you wonder why you didn't buy one sooner. I will always have one in my boat.
....and you can call it a glorified lighter if you like, but the 'glory' is what makes it $19.50 better than a lighter!!

Re: cutting tufline?
Just put a little tension on the line, and most any pair of scissors will work fine. For instance, I put the end of line that I'm going to discard in my teeth, grab on the other side of where I want to cut with my free hand, pull tight, and snip. Easy as pie, and makes a clean cut with no fray.

Re: cutting tufline?
Maybe someone can help here.
I just started using braided line last year, bobber fishing. I have a heck of a time getting the small bead for the bobber stop on the line. Am I not cutting the line right, or is there a different method of a bobber stop here?
Thanks a bunch,
 fishyone

Re: cutting tufline?
Tie your own bobber stops directly on the line using a uni knot and Dacron line.
