I have seen a bridge across to the island when the water is low,but I have never seen anyone fishing the island itself. There is a rocky point about 300 yards up river that is fished by bank fishermen alot for sturgeon and springers.

We fish off the East end of Cedar Island in a boat, and we see people fishing off Cedar Island all the time. Take yourself some Spin-n-glo's and some lead and go for it. Be on the the east side towards the north end, you will see a hog line above you and you just cast out quite a bit below them, for the boats are LONG LINING.
Good-luck

I used to fish in that area alot from the bank.
There used to be a bridge accessible from Mary S. Young state park. I don't think it is accessible from Cedar Island boat ramp due to private property blocking your access. I remember it was a long fast hike downhill from the parking lot and a long slow hike back uphill. I used to drift worms and grubs on the east side (willamette side) of the island and catch alot of smallmouth bass.
There is a nice lagoon to take your kids fishing there on the west linn side. A nice boat ramp, parking lot and bathrooms. I have been told that you can wade across to the island during low water, but have never seen anybody do it though.
I have caught Largemouth, smallmouth, perch, crappie, bullheads, and even a foot and a half long sturgeon from the lagoon.
To get there, take highway 43(?) from Lake Oswego going towards WestLinn/Oregon city. When you see a stoplight with a 7/11 on the corner turn and go down that road towards the river. It kind of winds down past a school and residential areas. There are a few little boat ramp signs to guide you. You will end up at the boat ramp. Or you can go park at Mary S. Young Park and hike. There are plenty of spots to fish from the bank. It gets crowded during springer season with fisherman, and crowded during the summer with everybody else. Not a quiet secluded spot at all.

The bridge is still there, you can hike to the island from the state park, unless a flood is in progress. (Check out the high water mark at the boat ramp dock from '96 - wow!)
