Sucking sandshrimp
I was thinking about going to the coast this week and sucking for shrimp. Any ideas where I might head to?

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
Last time I did that, I went to the other side of the Nehalem Bay, across from Jetty Fishery.
Not really sure if they're still available there or not. There was some commercial guys in there removing thousands of them an hour.
Also you need to check your tide book - ???

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
Seriously, though, I'd go to Seaside, across from the high school.
I hope I don't get killed for posting this.
That's where I used to always fill up.
While you are there, pump the shrimp, then throw a line out and catch a flounder.
It's a great afternoon!
Sit on your bucket with a lid, pop the flouder in the bucket as you catch em! It's funny to sit on those buckets with thrashing fish inside!

F H,
Make sure you floss afterwards, otherwise they'll leave a real nasty taste in your mouth.

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
My idea on this matter!
Do you plan on shrimping?
or planning to fish?
If you have more time than money
YOU SHRIMP
If you have more money
you fish!!!!!
easy formula...most people want to fish...!~

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
Oh , I'm sorry Jennie,
Thanks for the PLUG.
What a funny topic...
SUCKING SAND SHRIMP....
I wish we could JUST suck them out of the ground!
People have NO idea how much work and expense
it is to get these bugs..especially on a DAILY basis.
Year round we do this, in storms and freezing weather and at all times of the day and night.
We are at MOTHER NATURES MERCEY.
and at the PUBLICS MERCEY..
Not a pretty picture at time.
Thanks for listening...
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
Hi Bob,
Sand Lake area is an OFF limits restricted area
for commercial shrimpers, but a good spot to
shrimp with a hand gun for sport fishers!
You don't need a boat, thats whats great about it.
You just need time and a strong back, and alot of
Ben Gay afterwards if you're not used to it.
And at least 2 days of rest after you dig and dig
for those darn bugs...
JUST come see me

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
I don't want to take business away from bait shops, but all you need is a shrimp gun and a mud flat at low tide. You can pull plenty of shrimp in about 20 minutes if you find them. When the perch come into the bays to deposit their little fry, get your shrimp at low tide and anchor up over the shrimp bed on the incoming with a trout rod. It's one after another. You'll need 100 or so.

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
Hi There,
I have done this for a couple of years now and have easy access spots.
Mud Shrimp: Tillamook Bay right off of Hwy 101, the view point between Tillamook and Garibaldi. Look for the blue viewpoint sign and the parking area on the west side of Hwy 101. Go down to the water, head south 50-100 yards or so past the SINGLE pole sticking out of the water. Fair to middlen shrimp mud on a +1.0 tide or lower.
Sand Shrimp: Coast Guard station clamming area, Garibaldi. 100-200 yards east of the Piers End pier sticking out into the water, you'll see some flats on a low tide. These flats have moderate to low densities of sandshrimp. I have pumped this only a couple times as I'm usually going for mudshrimp so this might not be the best spot.
Hope that helps

Re: Sucking sandshrimp
OK, Enough with the shrimp suck talk. We might want to give flounder sucking another look however.
