Favorite spinner brand?
For those who fish them often - what's your favorite in-line spinner brand/type? Rooster Tail, bang tail, Mepp's, blue fox, Bud's?
I'm evenly split between the original Rooster Tail and the Blue Fox - RT's are great for the upper water column, shallow waters, and quick retrieve, where as if I want to fish a bit deeper, cast further, or retrieve a little slower, the Blue Fox gets the nod. I also like how the Blue Fox's come with the siwash replacement hooks. I either replace all trebs with singles (and pinch the barb) or I cut off two prongs of a treb, and flatten the remaining barb.
When I'm using a spin rod, I'm probably throwing inlines 80% of the time - they're just hard to beat for trout, bass, just about anything that swims.

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
I like the Luhr Jensen sneak in 1/4 and 1/3 oz for Steelhead. Used to be my favorite when I fished the Deschutes a lot. Fishes deep and I used to catch quite a few on the white with black spots in 1/3 oz . The 1/4 oz with in chartruse with red spots has been a killer tidewater Salmon spinner for me at times, mainly for Jacks. They may be out of production now. Glad I have a good supply. I have had great luck with the 3/16th brass buds for a low water coast Steelhead spinner.Other than that A gold bladed frog finished Panther Martin and most of the Blue foxes have worked well for me at times.Never been to impressed with the Rooster tails as about half I have ever tied on refuse to spin correctly. When you get one that works good they will catch a bunch of fish. Sometimes it seems that how you fish a spinner is more important than what one you tie on. Other times it seems like any fish that gets within twenty feet of your spinner is ready to pounce. Just my

Blue Fox for slow water, Pentac for fast water.

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
I like using Roostertails or Mepps. I've caught LOTS of trout with silver/white, silver/black, silver/blue roostertails. I've also caught a ton of them using silver Mepps #1.

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
I agree with Skeetshtr. Luhr Jensen Sneaks are my favorite trout spinner. White with black spots, chartruse with either black or pink spots, and fire red in the smallest size have all been very productive. I like these spinners because of the way they "fish". When they hit the water they begin spinning immediately, rarely have blade fouls, and their weight makes them easy to cast. The Luhr Jensen Bang Tail that replaced them just doesn't "fish" nearly as well.

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
Skeetshtr mentioned some rooster tails just won't spin correctly or just won't spin at all. I've seen this mentioned frequently when talking rooster tail spinners.
Is there a remedy for lazy-worthless rooster tails besides the garbage?

tweak the shaft a little bit. if that doesnt work get out your file and go to town on the parts that stick. i have baught a premade spinner since i started making my own. it's almost quicker to wrap up a lure then it is to tie premade leaders for steelhead fishing. with the right tools

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
RE the Rooster Tail fix - if the blade isn't turning, check the clevis (the U shaped part that joins the blade to the shaft) - sometimes they'll get bent from hitting a rock or stump and they bind on the shaft. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend it back out.
Sometimes the shaft itself gets bent - take some pliers and straighten it out.
Worst case scenario - if you can't get 'em to run right- you can donate them to me

Re: Favorite spinner brand?
In line spinners, would be Panther Martin, regular ones would be Kastmaster, and OLD Rooster tails (they actually spin). Everything else home-made.
