Default Remote Troll

Ive posted this in the past but with new members daily I thought I'd give it a second shot.

Im looking for a auto pilot or remote trolling unit. The TR-1 is king but $2000 is a bit steep. Has anyone used or heard of the Panther Marine remote unit? Its $300 and more budget friendly. I am just looking for some feedback.
Thanks.....

Fool

Hey Jett'n Fool,

I've seen the panther marine you are talking about after a year of use. It didn't look so good with rust. I'm pretty sure it runs off a 12v motor that is exposed to the weather. A better choice might be the Trol-Eze for $595.00. A mutch better built unit in my opinion. It uses a stinless steel hydrolic cylinder that turns the trolling motor while the 12v hydrolic pump is mounted inside the boat away from weather. Check out Staff Jennings or Clemmens if your around Portland. I'm sure there are others in the area that carry it. It is very simple to install yourself. I htink most will charge about $100 to install it otherwise. Good Luck!

Jettin fool,
Check out www.walleyecentral.com Go to the message board and do a search.
They have smoked this over quite a bit. A lot of people like both systems. With a panther you will need additional throttle control. TR-1 system has it in one control. In a crowd, I like hands on the kicker motor as sometimes you have to do panic manuvering!

if all you need is remote steering and you don't care about throttle control. The Goetz troll-eze is the cheapest toughest system on the market. Not a auto pilot and does not have a great throttle control system. Yet is a cheap quick and easy solution for remote stearing. Available @ 800 215-3684 talk to Dave he got me mine.

I put on the Panther Marine remote unit on my boat last year and it is "great". I got the saltwater version which costs a bit more, but I think it was worth it. You can look it up at www.panthermarine.com. It was easy to mount, very compact and makes steering a breeze. You do need to uncouple the rod when you pull your kicker up for traveling, but that only takes about 1/2 sec. to do. A good unit for me.

Propwash, Is there a cable from the unit to the remote or is it wireless?

Mine has a small wire to the unit, about 25' long so you can move around with it really well. I also put a couple of small s/steel pads with Velcro pads to park the hand-held button switch on when not in use. It is real handy and the control is super. From quick turns to very slight adjustments to the steering. Incidently ,I do not work for the Panther Co. I just like the unit.
