Default Yamhill river this weekend?

Any water/fishing reports from the mouth up to the Dayton launch?

Is it still pretty muddy?

So I fished it today. What a pretty river. Still brown with less than 1' visibility. Water temp was around 45.5 and there was a fairly swift current.

Found a couple of spots in 32+ feet of water that lit up the fishfinder like a Christmas tree (including some real lunkers - I had no idea a fish graphic that size was available on my screen ).

Tried drop-shot senkos, craw tubes, even jigging and spincasting. Not a bite.

I drove over the Yamhill in a few different places on my way to Lincoln City yesterday - the river closer to Grande Ronde wasn't as nasty looking as the lower stretches near Mac. I stopped at the county park off Hwy 18 south of Mac to take a leak and snap some pix - the water was nasty brown except right up by the edges. Did look like it'll be a good place to try later in the season when the water clears up.

Roger - I think you're right on all counts. I found a number of spots that had bass-sized fish (according to my finder) clustering between 8.5 - 11 feet. And those big ones on the bottom weren't bass!

Finneus - that's what I was thinking. The Yamhill does hold cats according to my copy of "Fishing in Oregon." And maybe a lazy steelhead or 2.

Mkwerks - thanks for the update. I'll be going back to the Yamhill when it clears, for sure.

I fish the Yamhill alot during the summer and I am thinking that the large fish you saw on your finder were carp. That river has tons of them.

Hey George, that would make sense. The Yamhill is a lot like the Tualatin, and that river hosts some truly monster carp. Since both spill into the upper willy, it just seems natural that some of the carp would migrate into both rivers and find homes. Of course, they could be cats - or both. Carp & cats in the same body of water do tend to inhabit the same surroundings, and will feed on the same prey (carp do eat baitfish and crawfish in addition to bugs, worms, and vegetable matter)

Took my kids down to the Dayton boat launch yesterday evening; the river is more of a stained greenish tint.

Seems like that place isn't really any good until June. Sure is pretty down there though.
