Default Going North to Alaska

Just found out this weekend that I'm going to Alaska in June to do some serious fishing. My Dad and I are going to Fire Weed lodge. My uncle went there 2 years ago and did really well. I can't wait to check this one out. Kings, halibut, and what ever else, should be a blast. Anybody else been on a trip up there. What is it like?

Damien, take your rain gear. Set your reels up with new lineabout 25lb. and get ready for some fun times. Take your rain gear. and have fun. Wish I could go too. You won't need to catch a springer since you will have a shot at a really big king. And the halibut is outragious. Beef up before you get into one of those big ones. You will not want to come back.

Try to go out with Trevor Sargent. He is a good guide and a frend of mine from Ketchikan.

Alaska is awesome. It's a great vacation, because in the summer every day is about 3 days long!

Yeah, I just found out I get to go to Alaska this summer, too. My folks are taking their RV in late May and staying through early August, so I am going to fly up in late June, early July for a week or so. I think they said they are going to be in Valdez area?//Not sure, but I can't wait- 60 pound king? 200 pound halibut? HT

60 lb kings are rare in the Valdez area. Sitka is a better place for large kings, however a 60 lb one is still uncommon. As for the 200 lb butt, it is better to kill halibut that are between 30lbs and 50 lbs. Those over 60 lbs are usually hens and when halibut get over 50 lbs they are more wormy and the food quality is poor. Have a good time and try to take a ferry ride to Cordova and drive up the Copper River Highway.
