Anyone fish Island Lk near Ollalie?

hi all,
i'm wanting to spend a few days hiking and fishin' at the lakes around Ollalie with the kids. i know some of the other lakes there have fish - does anyone know if Island Lake has fish? never been up there yet.

any inputs on the area are appreciated. We'll be taking float tubes.

Not other lakes too much but have fished Ollalie a lot in the past.

I have fished and camped up there a lot.... but never island lake.. lower,long,horseshoe,dark,fish all have GREAT fishing.. easy to limit out each day... timber/upper/red all have fish but do get winter kill best to call odfw dalles office and check for lake conditions in mid may/early june as they snorkle/scuba all the lakes to check on fish populations...

Upper/lower/red/horseshoe all have camping at the lake

Good job taking your kids fishing - my son is 2 so I hope to take him in a few more years.

I looked up Island Lk on Google Earth. It looks pretty shallow, so I'm guessing in doesn't have fish. (Get a copy of Fishing Or - it's a great book that has a list of all the fishable lakes and rivers in Or.) Island lk. is on Warm Springs Reservation property, so you'll need a Warm Springs fishing permit. I've caught fish in Harvey Lk - it's an intersting bushwack to get there.

Ollalie lake will have the best fishing. Monon Lake just south of Olallie Lk can have good fishing. ODFW used to stock Olallie with huge brood trout every 4th of July - they might still.

I've never done well at Britenbush Lk for anything over 8 inches, but it's a neat drive (you need a high clearance vehicle) and a nice hike to Jefferson Park for some great views.

The Road to Olallie is usually blocked by snow until early July - it should be open earlier this year, but you'll want to make sure the road is clear.

I think Sandy eggs hit it on the head! Probably not much of a winter kill this year though, bug repellent and fishing rods! One of my old labs met a badger up there on the trail! After about .0003 sec,s he realized that his one big mean house cat!
