Default mercury 200 oil problem

i have a 2003 merc 200 a oil alarm is going off the reservor under the cowling is not filling all the way i replaced a oil check valve on the block per 3rivers suggestion still having the same problem any advice would be appreciated thanx

no the cap is good its just not filling the tank all the way so i get the alarm while running thanx

I believe there are more than 1 check valves. You may wanna start there.

I assume you have already looked for line leaks, and all caps are tight on oil tanks.

Have you tried manually topping it up? If mine gets an air bubble in it it will keep alarming but if you top it up and put the lid on tight, it will stay full.

thanx for the replies all of the hoses and caps are good i filled the tank manually on the river they other day so hopefully your right and it was air bubble is there any way to make sure that the other check valves are working thanx

Bleed the lines to get air bubbles out of the system. Pouring more oil in the tank does not take the air out of the lines......only the tank. Ya got to burp it like a baby.

the sensor wires out of the top of the cap on my 1991 200hp Merc were giving me a false-alarm... a new cap and sensor fixed it. when the motor is alarming, try wiggling the sensor wires.

BTW, i found if i bend the sensor wires (on the faulty cap) right over as they exit the cap, and then zip-tied the wires bent that it 'fixed' the wire fault. the alarm went away, and the sensor seemed to work correctly. i kept the old cap as a backup.
