Shouldn't be a problem, $5 or $10 bucks from each and everyone of us should more than cover it..........and buy dinner to.

Re: What ifish needs...
If the average donation is $1.00 per member....we could come up with over $2,000.00.
Put me down for $10.00
Give me the address and the check is in the mail!

I have not talked it over with the Captain of Team "sneakin 'Out" however I'm sure that you can count us in for a donation  . I could always threaten to tell people that I out fished him today. I just did  , let us know. Tilla, Fishalot, Sneakey One and I don't know what the others go by.

Re: What ifish needs...
I'm going to do a one month drive in April, like last year.
Whatever we come up with, will go to the server and other connectivity costs for the BB part of ifish.
I am trying to think of a way to make April extra fun, like have ready set contests every day, or something. However, I don't have enough prizes, or I do, but that would be IT for the year!
I'm working on getting some more just for the month long event.
If anyone can think of any other fun things to do during April, let me know.
I will be displaying a list of needs and their costs, so you will see where your money is going.
I'm excited to get a new server for ifish... I want a picture of it, with an ifish sticker on it.
Our very own server!
I don't think there are really 2000 members on ifish. Many duplicate monikers that aren't used still... from people forgetting passwords and re registering, and some for people who have an at work moniker, and an at home moniker. Some people have registered, and are not active.
I'm sure everything will all work out. (just like my eye surgery, right? )
Remember, we can't do any raffles, or anything that involves the exchange of money for prizes. That has to go through the lottery, etc.
The Justice Department ok'd our ready set contests, because they don't involve that exchange of money.
If anyone has any grand ideas, and wants to be a part of it, e mail me.
Anyway, rules, regs, aside... It'll be a fun month!
Jen

Re: What ifish needs...
Put me down for whatever. In addition I'll throw this one out. April 6,7,8 are awesome tide days on lower Columbia. Book one of these days and I'll donate half the proceeds to Ifish.
Any other guides out there want to match that? Ifish has been great to me.

Re: What ifish needs...
The good news, is that I fixed it! No more shipping for donations!
Yaya!
The bad news, for me, is that now on decals there is no shipping either.
Argh!
Oh well...
Enjoy free shipping for decals NOW!!!
After all, it's me birthday!
The girls and I just set out to drift, but the boats went sideways in the wind... We unshuttled, took out, and now it's time for smoked oysters and cheeeeeeeeeeese.
Warm, and much dryer!
No birthday fish yet... But the day is early.

Hey JEN, I booked the 6th for Ifish. That means Ifish gets half the proceeds. Let's see--- $100 for gas, $100 for bait, $100 for boat deprec., $50 for Capt. lunch, $50 Insurance. Just kidding. Ifish should net at least $150.

Re: What ifish needs...
HOLY SHIZNET. Hardware NW is ripping you off to the tune of 30 - 300% depending on the computer componet. The system your looking at should cost about 900 - 1200 max not $2000.
Check out www.newegg.com and look up some of the items they priced for you. If you can design a web page you can build your own machine its so easy and its really hard to screw up.
Also whomever told you you need 3 RDRAM Rimms is an idiot along with the motherboard recomendation. number 1. RDRAM has to be installed in Pairs so its either 2 or 4 This guy qouted that you needed 3 = won't work. You won't need more than 512 megs ram and rimms are $99 for 256k. number 2. The Asus P4b is a SDRAM motherboard. SDRAM will cripple a pentium 4. The RDRAM their selling you wont even fit in the board they reccomended. You need a ASUS P4TE $189 At least they put the 478 pin in their but your better off with a 1.8a pentium 478. Note the letter a after the MHZ number that is important. This chip has the Northwood Core which was just released in Jan and is a lot faster than an equivalent 1.8. Heck a 1.6a will be faster than a 1.7
That raid controller they are selling you is a joke, this card PROMISE FASTTRAK100 TX2 RAID CONTROLLER CARD for $76 will do the same thing as their 460$ card. You could also get the ABIT TH7II-RAID INTEL 850 ATX MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL for $164 and you get an all in one solution. Personally I would go with the Asus board because its rock solid stable.
If you want more information about building computers goto www.sharkyextreme.com and check their articles and forums out. Heck post in the forums about what your trying to do and I guartantee they will give you an answer of what the perfect solution will be. they know more their than 99% of the computer shops. They are big AMD fans because of cost but Intel will be the most stable and cause the least grief. Their are a lot of Intel guys in their that will be willing to help. So make sure you ask for an intel solution if you post in their.
Hope some of this helps. I really hate computer shops after being screwed on my first machine so I read everthing i could find and became computer smart. Building a computer is easier than diagnosing most computer problems that are ussually software and/or User related to begin with. If you need more info or help let me know.

Re: What ifish needs...
HOLY SHIZNET... LOL
Thanks for the other advice.
I know nothing about servers, so every little piece of info is treasured.
I'd hardly call the guys at infopop idiots, but still... I will take your knowledge and add it to the data base.
No WAY am I going to walk in some store alone and purchase a thing.
I am working on getting a committee together.
Whoever wants to be involved, contact me.
Thanks for all the info!
Oh--- Captain J-- Your offer is fantastic and wildy appreciated. However, I cannot accept that much from you.
Not only that, but I don't think we need that much, especially if what the above says is true!
Thank you though, Captain!

Re: What ifish needs...
i agree the price is high, and the parts are wierd.
I know this because I am a computer tech and do alot of buying and building
try http://www.msdi.com/products/pricelist.htm
thats who I use to buy from, they seem ok. those are probly old prices and things change fast with computer prices, but good for a ruff estimate
and no i dont work for them or anything. just feel like spreading the word for a small buisness that does good work.

Re: What ifish needs...
We need to form a committee here!
What I will probably do, is go with my CGI guys reccomendations, my ISP's and then also get some feedback from you guys too.
I would be very grateful if we could meet for lunch sometime in Portland. Go to Fry's maybe, look around?
Jen
Bottom line, what we need:
Pentium 4 700 or greater.
RAM AT LEAST 750 megs (You sure 512 will do?)
Disks - at least 7500 RPM RAIDed together.
Is this it?
E mail me, ok?

I also have built many systems and those prices are high. Newegg is a great place and ship quickly via fedEx. You might consider a dual Athalon processor system. A7m266-D dual MP motherboard Using DDr Ram. Jen, also use
www.pricewatch.com for price comparisons.

Re: What ifish needs...
Hi Jennie@
Seems a bit pricey at HDNW but, what is the value of customer support? Sure you could build it yourself for less. IF something was to fail or create conflicts, would you know what component(s) are causing the problem?
Question I have, what is causing the problem now? CPU? memory? disk I/O? traffic I/O? software? If the culprit is known or can be identified, maybe the current server can be upgraded. Would be considerable savings if that is the case.
If you have to go new, my best recommendation is that you use SCSI drives, 10K RPMs or better. This type of forum is disk intensive. SCSI drives are built to really pump out the data.
