I'm in the market for a new 15-20 hp motor. What is a best brand and where and when is the best time to buy. Looking for electric start

There is probably not a best brand. All depends on how much you want to spend, and what your gonna use it for. Once you pick a brand get on the web and start surfing. Call local dealers and see where you will get the best price. I recently bought an 8 hp Honda 4 stroke electric start and power tilt. I found prices as high as 3,500 low 2,820. I ended up buying in Portland (no tax) for 2920.

Suzuki makes a nice electric start and the prices are right. And that comes from a Mercury fan!!

HONDA! Yamaha, Suzuki and Merc are also good. It's a Chevy vs. Ford thing

I've had good dealings with Clemens in the past. I'd get a quote from other dealers in the area too

What about Tohatsu outboards? Doesn't Tohatsu make Mercury?

I think this is dead on for ranking, #1-#4 but with the Suzuki being a very close third. You keep seeing more and more and I've owned one and they are really great motors for the beatings I've given it.

I'll step out and give an opinion. Between Honda and Yamaha, they are the best...hands down. Between those two you are trading a little dependability and better engineering in the Honda for Better Performance and some very minor user accessories that make Yamaha a joy on the water. But those difference are literally PAPER thin. So thin that to a point that's why I believe Yamaha wins out, the majority of the time.

Which is why I like them both... and own both. (Yamaha Main Power and Honder Kicker)
