Default Dumb Steelhead Question

For what periods of time are the steelhead in the water, both Winter and Summer? Trying to figure out at what point I should stop going out after them.

Why stop ? Just change streams. Most are now getting plenty of natives ( c& r), and some summers will begin to show in stronger numbers soon. The Willamette, Clack and Sandy should have fresh steelies entering pretty much everyday. Some better than others, but I would say at least one steelie heads in each day.

So there you go, never stop. In fact on of those little ol steelies may grow and be a chinook  It's possible to get both for the next 4 months or so.

Good fishing,

Chris

As far as I know Cool Tex is you will find them in the water their entire lives!!

Muh ha ahaha!!! couldn't resist Bro!

You can pretty much fish for steelhead year round but this time of year is primarily nates so folks will focus on keeper fish, Springers and Bass  are two fish you can keep right now!

Good Luck

There are no Dumb Steelhead

Yep; there always somewhere. Just change places. We chase 'em in the salt off Whidbey then on to the Snohomish further on into the Sky and Snoqualmie. There's ALWAYS somewhere to chase 'em.

We chased Springers from County Line Park all the way to Ringold last year!

Hello Tex! Kinda hard to follow the migratory species here! What part of Texas did you come from? I lived in Irving for about 2 years, dragged around a jet sled and those folks havent seen to many of them down there!

Cool Texan, careful what you say, most of these guays are desk bound and fish vicariously through others. But they are right. The fish are on the move and if a person fished nothing but the Clack., he would probably catch something just about every month.
Add in my new found fishery ( sturgeon ) I will fill in the months when it is slow with them.
Spingers will be around for about four months and that gets us to the summer steelhead season which ties into the coho and buoy 10 fishing. You know the chinook are next and then we're back to winter steelhead. Pretty much fills out all 12 months. No time for the bass or channel cats.

Tex, check your email. :depressed:

You will find out some folks catch fish on this board, even after 20 years of casting lines in the NW rivers . I would caution against the desk fishermen and those who eat lots of donuts and talk alot about eggs of bait  as there may be something hidden in the message

Some fish a like and some like a fish, you discern who catches and a good way is to fish with the fishermen

Faith is what catches anything, In the bible Hebrews 11:1 says, Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

I sure hope the desk fishing comments weren't aimed at me. :depressed: I've never set foot in an office, and I fish darn near every day ( in water no less), and only give the reports as they are asked for. Just trying to help old Tex out.....

FM2, got your email, but not till this morning. I will gladly take you up on that rain check though.

Regarding the calendar...I never got it. :depressed: Rumor had it a while back I was going to receive one in the mail, but it never showed up. So the only picture of a woman in waders that I have is of my wife when we went to a fly fishing B&B a year or so ago...she was wearing a loaner pair which were WAY too big for her (probably XL waders, and she is 5'11 and a string bean)...result...lumps and bumps in all the WRONG places!! Not a sexy picture.
