Default FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

When I was gainfully employed we were required to do inspections for fire & life hazards. I always found it interesting that extinguishers of various
types were required on site and to have been tested. The real suprise is that no one was actually required to be trained to use them. ( in the majority on businesses) I believe the average person who has never been forced to use one of these would be SHOCKED at the distance and time restrictions you are faced with. Some large employers were able to have a hands on class for employees.

Dogrobber great post (also great moniker, there are a few of us who know what that is) People would be amazed at the amount of fire you can actually put out with an extinguiser and how fast they go. This is a picture of a training fire that we put out using three dry Chem extinguishers. I have a few others that show the size a bit better but I like this one  Out of 8 groups of three ours was the only group to actually get the fire out first try. Shows you that it takes practice even for professionals. This was in a pan that was 4-5' wide and 12'-14' long filled with Diesel and was dripping from the flanges that are in the picture.

Dogrobber, when I took a boating safety class in May of 2000 the Coast Guard Auxilry Flotilla 76 went over how to opertate an extinguisher on a boat. They covered the finer points of galley fires or below deck fires, fuel fires ect. I found the information to be very helpful

I am surprised you have not had more responces to this important topic. It is not just a stand back and blast deal.

As a business owner after a decent little fire that cost me about $10,000 I was sure to train my employees but only after it cost me money It was just amazing how under pressure a tech can just freeze and act stupid. lesson learned.

Thanks for bringing this up. BTW I carry two ext's on my 23' Trophy.
