Default tahatsu shifting problems

I have a 2005 5hp tahatsu four stroke I had a o-ring seal behind the prop in the gear box go bad took it off replaced it, when I went to put it back together now the prop wont spin free in the neutral position it will only spin free in the reverse position.
I can see exactly how it should work but it ain't happening.
any help would be great Thanks in advance

Sounds like your shift rod is out of adjustment ...

well .....
A) It worked great until I pulled the prop and lower unit off.
B) I didn't touch the shift rod.
C) I have it apart now and can feel all the shift points and free spool of prop is in reverse position??????
theres a rod with steps to put pressure on a spring loaded sliding gear the step for neutral acts like it doesn't push far enough to release forward gear and acts like not enough pressure to put it into reverse at the reverse position I think somethings missing or ????

I was wondering if anybody has a schematic blow apart picture of the lower unit Thank you for looking !!!!

OK. I didn't touch the shift rods until after I found out there was a problem You can pull the lower gear box behind prop two little screws without pulling lower unit.
another words I pulled lower gear box put it back together found it wouldn't shift right didn't touch shift rods at that point. Should have been simple remove gear box fix seal put back in gear box done.
Except something went wrong! Yes when I decided to pull lower unit I then did remove the shift rod but the problem happened way before that. Hope that makes since.

Sounds like you will have to get into the gear box again ...
You should have a repair manual on this before attempting it again ...
