Re: Is that good springer fishing?
That would be considered very good! ( the limit is 2 per day/person). I spent time below B-ville and in the lower section by Ranier and saw some boats doing better than that ( I wasn't one of them) :depressed:

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
Hey ID Painter,
Did you think I was lying to you? I have fished the Wind River for 15 years. The nice thing is you don't have to release the ones that are not clipped. Do a search of my posts by member number.
Those aren't the only fish I catch!

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
Yeah, he does catch the occasional springer, and a rare steelhead or two. But he is only average, maybe a little below, compared to the rest of us.
But do show him some respect......this guy is HUGE!

Fear No Fish. I certinly wasnt doubting your word, just trying to compair. It sounds too good to be true. Would Stevenson be a good home base? Where do you launch to fish the Wind? id. painter

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
ID Painter,
If you launch at the Wind get there early or late.
Trouble is, if you go late, you will have to park your trailer way up on the highway. Stevenson is where I launch but if it is windy it can make for an extremely exciting ride. If a east wind is blowing you will have to surf your boat onto your trailer. I hug the shore when going back and forth from the launch if it is bad. Be careful of the indian nets as I had a bad experience with one, during a monsoon. The net lost. See ya on the water! SOON!

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
We fished below Bonneville..had some(That's more than one) eight-fish days. Things will be a bit different this year below Bonneville with added runoff and higher water levels. In reality..i think the Columbia was good just about everywhere last spring.

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
id.....fear no fish knows what he is talking about. You would do well to head what he says and follow his lead. The advantage of fishing the Wind in comparison to below the dam...you can keep everything....
i will be there sometime in April on....not sure when.

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
I also did very well just below bonniville last spring. when the wind didnt blow us off we boated fish. I agree with FishinMission the water flow will be big this year. hope we are able to stay anchored and make our quickfish swim.

Is that good springer fishing?
Yesterday someone who calls themself " Fear No Fish" gave me a tip about fishing the mouth of the Wind. This person said that last year durring the first 5 days of April two guys had landed 13 springers. My question is this, is that average, above or below average as compaired to fishing below Bonneville with kwikfish?

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
I prefer shrimp scents. Sometimes I smear
with shrimp salt smelly jelly then a
squirt of wd-40. Before I use a plug I
always spray it down and wipe clean with
wd-40. I really like the smell of shrimp
scents. It reminds me of something

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
Thanks , Fear No Fish. Im really jacked to catch some springers. You mentioned that the boat ramp in Stevenson can be trickey with an east wind. Ill probably try it , anyway. Is there any special or any more advice for me before i head out.

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
id.painter,
Make sure you don't get caught fishing in one location all week if it's not happening there.
Every year is different and the timing of some places change.

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
David Johnson, Thanks for your help. Im still trying to get the show to play on my machine it sounds like i can have someone with more experience at this stuff help me, ill do that and watch. Im sure its good advice to not put all of my eggs in one basket, Ill stay flexable and keep in touch with you all over there, for updates. My experience in that area has me thinking that from Bonneville up it tends to be more windy than closer to the coast .. True or false. If its predicted to be an unsettled week of weather with storms blowing through, am i better off anchored with kwikfish and below Bonneville?

Re: Is that good springer fishing?
That can be the case, the wind I mean. Of course unsettled weather can be nasty all over.
The flows may be too high below the dam (right below) this spring, we'll have to wait and see.
