I have a 55# Minn Kota Riptide.
for those of you with similar motors... do you think the 60a fuse is neede between the battery and motor?

Yes, and I use a circuit breaker with a reset costs more but works great in case of a short, don't have to worry about fuses.

Cool Re: Electric trolling motor fuse

I second the cuircuit breaker it will trip under extreme load
but allow you to still use the motor later ...

I've never tripped mine in the 2 years I've had it, but they sure WANT you to use one. It's cheap insurance and why not just put one in there. I went with a MAXI-FUSE from West Marine, very easy to add to the positive lead near the battery.

I have an 84# Motor guide. I use a 50 amp circuit, per manufactuers plans. Never blown but great insurance for a 400$ motor if it does

I stuck my bow mount into a sand bar last summer, first time ever, and luckily blew the fuse and didn't burn up the motor. I'd definitely fuse it.

I just bought a new Minnkota Power Drive #55 and the manufacture recommends a 60 amp circuit breaker
