Default Newport this weekend.

I'm going to be in the Newport area this weekend, yes the family is gong to the S&W fest. I really need to fish, been doing family things for the last few weeks. This will make almost a month since I have fished last.

Where are some good spots to try, I am boatless. Any species will do. And spot with and without kids would be great. Thanks a lot for the info. Would like to take my oldest, nine herring jigging. Can this be done from shore?

I'm hearing that herring can be caught just about anywhere you can get a line in. A good place might be the embarcadaro dock or the public pier. As far as fishing with kids, the south jetty would be good depending on how young they are. W/out kids, my favorite is the north jetty all the way out just past the hump. Size 4 bait hooks and sandshrimp. Nightcrawlers with mikes shrimp oil works good too. You can also bring the lanterns and night fish the south jetty for blacks. We've done good on floating rapalas or white grubs retrieved slowly just under the surface... Joe

This is kind of off the subject since you don’t have a boat, but year ago we used to catch flounder in the river, just above the bay. Is that fishery still going on? It was a great thing for kids.

Come on Down if you like winter storms, last night the wind hit 60+ and the rain came in sideways, I was looking at a massive storm front coming in at 0900 this morning, I am heading back to the Clackamas this weekend...I will tell you it was 57 degrees when I went thru Waldport this a.m. Take Care, Steve
