Default Solenoid

What does the Solenoid on the side of the carb do? It is linked to the manual choke pull at the front of the motor. If it is an automatic choke, why the manual one in the front.

Also, I have been reading that some auto chokes work when you press the key in and hold it at start up, is this the part that they are referring to?

Yes, that is so if you have an electrical problem you can manually activate the choke to start motor.

Thanks. Does it work by holding in the key then?

Push the key in, while turning it (as to start it).
That is usually the choke.
If that isn't working, that is shot, get a new switch/
You could try to jump it to *** terminal. Try that first with key off!

Some older controls will have a seperate choke button as well. Choke only closes while the button is being pressed. If you have one of these you should be able to hear the solenoid cycle as the button is pressed.
