my girlfreinds 1st sturgeon

my girlfreind and i went out springer fishing on the willie,we fished neer meldrum bar on the other side of the river. after a few hours of doing the K-15 thing, I could tell she was getting bored. so i asked her to reel in and give me her pole. i rerigged her for sturgeon using sandshrimp for bait,then let her put back out. after about 10 minutes i deceided she was too close to the boat.so i reached over and grabed her pole to reel it in as i started to reel it in i felt a fish on it (we never even saw the pole twich). so i tell her there a fish on there and i hand her the pole, she starts to reel it in, i could tell it was a shaker, but then as it got closer, that pole (a heavy ugly stik) really started bending...OK maybe a keeper, then the line starts ripping out, i reach over and tighten the drag down a bit. im starting to think lets get off anchor, just then i hear her yell help,help. as i look back at her i see the pole is in a complete horseshoe, with tip in the water, line ripping out!. i help her keep the pole off the side of the boat, she regains control and after about 3 or 4 minutes the fish if brought up. it was a fat 57- 60"
as this fish was caught on sunday we never lifted it out of the water.we managed to get a picture of it though (non digital)she caught 3 more shakers that day.

I took my girl friend springer fishing last March and SHE LIMITED ....Now, she's "hooked".

i cought my first keeper least year up at the Boneville Dam. it was 53 inches.

aint it great that we can have awesome memories and dont even have to take it home.

about 6 weeks ago I got my wife her fist keeper, and several shakers. She had fished a couple time in what are called lakes in New Mexico (here we call'em irrigation ponds) and wasn't too impressed. The next weekend she got into a couple very big fish, both lost. Shakers and small keepers the next couple weeks. Week before last, she got one that I measured in the water as a long 58". Couldn't get in the net, so I tried to haul it in using it's tail and the leader. I dropped it :shocked: and my wife was . Now, on my days off she is up early telling the kid to hurry up to the bus stop (used to give her a ride), yelling at me "the boat is loaded, why are you still in bed?". Today we dipped 40 lbs of smelt before 10 o'clock and she wants to go back tomorrow. I thought it was pretty cool....but now it's getting a little scary........
