Beauties too!

There is also plenty of whitefish, some browns in the upper river, kokanee run up from Lake Billy Chinook in late September.

But the Redsides and Bulls are the predominant species.

And barely worth mentioning but just for a complete list, rarely, a Brook trout will migrate out of a trib that contains them (Abott Cr) and be caught.

Arnie, great to hear from you.

It has been way too long since I have fished the Met, but will get the chance this Summer.

Glad to hear that you are still getting over there and enjoying that beautiful river.

pretty much just about anything in you fly box. Streamers will work for some of the Redsides & Bulltrout, stonefly nymphs, PTs, HEs, GRWs...they all work. My personal favorite: serendipity

The river is so rich in insect life that you really can't go wrong....just try a bunch of different flies until you find what they prefer on that day. Most of your topwater action will take place during the hatch periods (most, not all).

Right now, you've got BWOs, Cinygmula mayflies are around, PMDs towards the end of the month...midges are always around in some numbers.

Plus, in several weeks, the Green Drakes will starting getting active...

The weekend days that are sunny bring out the famed Orvis Hatch in huge numbers...sometimes they get close enough to where you can hook one or two of them...

personally, I've never tried them there, but I don't see why not. The Muddler works just about anywhere.

Last Friday, fished the afternoon near the Hatchery; streamers for the bulls and some dries and nymphs for rainbows. Saw two fish rise, but I did not get any action.

There were three guys nymphing the east bank with indicators when I left, but I didn't see them hook up either.

Still, it was a beautiful day and it was on the Metolius, so, no complaints.
