Default smelt running?

Looking for some info on where and if there are some smelt to be caught this coming weekend. I would like to get some for bait if anyone knows a good spot and if there is a run going on. Thanks, Propwash

Yep, the gulls were going bazerk at I-5 over the Lewis River. I was doing 65 MPH and couldn't really give it a good look, but there was a bazillion of them everywhere.

Went dipping last night in Lexington, just above Carnival market at my usual spot, managed two limits, but it certainly took more than 3 or 4 dips. Average about 5 fish per dip, lots of work, but the fish were nice and mostly males. Anyone having any luck in the lower Lewis? Thinking of trying it from the boat on the weekend.

My Dad and brother went out yesterday and tried the Lewis near the railroad bridge - lots of gulls, no smelt close to the bank. They then migrated to the Cowlitz above Carnival market and pulled their 20lbs in a few dips. About 1/3 females (bait) and 2/3 males (dinner).

Good luck.

Propwash-
Don't forget to take along the life jackets for the kids. We did 3 limits in about 2 hours on sunday. My 5 year old had a blast. Mostly males though not very big.

Good reminder about the life jackets on the kids. Last time I was up in that Longview area saw a couple of young ones without them near the water and I didn't think that was to great. Propwash
