Rear DB seat options?
I am wanting to add a rear seat in my willie 16x54. I was curious if anyone would post their favorite and explain why. I have talked to willie and they make a slant box that goes back there and also a compartment box. I want the seat as far back as I can get it, against the anchor nest.
Any ideas???
Thanks Tom

Re: Rear DB seat options?
If you don't need the backrest of a seat, I would definitely go with the compartment. Storage always being an issue with a DB. On the boat I had before my present DB, I had a storage box and just put my throwable on it. Worked fine. Or mount a seat. Good Luck!

Re: Rear DB seat options?
I have a compartment on mine with a seat mounted on that. When I'm running my kicker, I keep my gas can(properly vented)in the compartment. When rowing, I take the seat off and the tank out. Makes for nice nice extra storage.

Re: Rear DB seat options?
Are you using it for running a kicker or electric or to put an extra person in the back while rowing. I opted for a gunnel mounted seat on my boat for running a kicker/electric. I've got a pic of it if you want. Joe Koffler made mine and it bolts on the gunnel. Wouldn't work if you wanted somebody to sit in it while you rowed but it is perfect for running a motor and keeping your rear space open.

Re: Rear DB seat options?
I have a rear storage compartment in my Koffler. It is removable, is great for puttting light stuff in (like dry foods on an overnighter) and could easily have slides mounted for a seat.
I would assume you could mount them to allow you to put the seat as far back as you want. I know my box is right against my anchor nest.
Remember you don't want it too far bac kor your going to get a lot of push from behind from that water.

Re: Rear DB seat options?
True, I dont want it too far back. I already have a pin mount on the gunnal to run my kicker, I am wanting to add a seat in the rear so I can fish someone out of the back when I am side drifting and throwing a jig! I dont really want to add a compartment because the welding will screw up my outside paint! I think that is what I am going to have to do in order to get the boat how I like it! Thanks for the info so far!

Re: Rear DB seat options?
I know that willies has a compartment that bolts to the floor gaurd piece. It has sliders for a seat and does not need to be welded. They had one in a boat that was at the show last month, looked nice.

Drop willierower a line. He has a seat mounted to the rail on the side, somehow.

Re: Rear DB seat options?
I have the exact same boat, just older, with a compartment (storage) box in the back just in front of the anchor nest. Screws in with plastic wing screws on the top for very quick removal if you want. My seat (fold down "fish on") is on top of that. Works well.

Re: Rear DB seat options?
Sell it and start over
Just kidding...the paint issue is a problem, I had my slides welded in when the boat was made, knowing I would want to come back and ad the compartment.
You should be able to figure something out that welds to the floor or something...good luck, it will be worth it to get it just right!

Re: Rear DB seat options?
I have a storage box in the back of my North River drifter. I mounted a Fish On quick disconect seat that match the two front seats. I used to take the box out when I was drifting, but now I leave it in most of the time, it's really good for storage for stuff like rain gear.
