Kids, campers, boast, poles… Where to go?
Kids, campers, boast, poles… Where to go?
It’s almost Spring Break, where to go to have a good chance at lake trout that are larger than 10”?
Would like to be able to camp and fish at the same place, but don’t have to. Would like to stay within 3 or 4 hours of Portland and the ideal spot would have a something close by for the shopping half of the dysfunctional family.

It is at the long end of your 3-4 hr limit but Lost Creek Reservoir on the Rogue River is a good place to catch nice trout as well as small mouth bass. The forks and tributaries of the Rogue above the lake are also good fishing and your shoppers can drive to
Medford or Ashland to satisfy their unusual addiction. You could also drive about 15 miles to Willow Lake, east of Bute Falls by way of Crowfoot Road, and catch 12"-16" trout or crappie. And if you want to try for Klamath Lake trout, last spring we boated a 10lb trout at Eagle Ridge (weighed four hours after we landed it), it is only an hour away from Rockey Point and Pelican Bay.

A good place to stay with kids is Ft. Stevens state park. You are at the coast and there are alot of trails both walking and biking. Also many other sites in the area to see.
And the best part is Coffenbury lake is it is stocked with recycled steelhead. Imagine one of your kids hooking into one of those!
Good Luck

Is crabbing an option? Take them to Siletz bay. Crab, maybe perch and the dysfunctional half will have so much shopping in lincoln city that they may get sick of it and be cured.

Crabbing is always an option, and a tastey one at that.

Lives to fish,
You might want to check out the front page of today's oregonian sports page. Undoubtedly
these fish will probably not be much bigger than your 10" trout, but it sounds like they are
going to be planted prior to spring break.
