Default Rod building help?

I think its time to build my first rod. I have wanted to for a long time but never really got into it till now. I am new so any little tips or info would be great. Like what epoxy to use, do i need rod varnish, how to wrap your guides, what guides to get and how many. How to line up all your guides. What thread to use if it matters or are they all the same. Is there a good websit that can help me out. I have made spinners and flies and it is so cool when you make something and it works and is nice. I just want that feeling when i make a rod. I think i will start on a spinning rod then work my way to a casting rod. Any help would be great thanks.

I would suggest buying the book "Do it Yourself Rod Building" by Bill Stinson. Anglersworkshop.com sells it. It is less than $10 and would be an valuable resource for you in your adventure. also check out some of anglers second blanks.. or check ebay.com for blank deals.. along with danderods.com for econd blanks... you should be able to get into an entire rod kit quite reasonably.

Good luck.
let us know how you do.

Go visit Gary Waterhouse at Great American Tackle in Clackamas. He can tell you everything you need to know. He also has rod building classes if that might be of intrest to you.

Bigspinner - A good website is www.rodbuilding.org It is a discussion board kind of like ifish, but with rod building questions being answered. A good place to post a question if you get in a bind. A nice archive of questions you can go back and read and probably find an answer to your particular question.

You will see links to several of the dealers and suppliers on the webpage. If you go to mudhole.com you will be able to read a nice description of how to build a rod. It is a decent description for being able to read it for free.

I would recommend the rod building book by Tom Kirkman if you wanted more to read. He is the editor of rodbuiding magazine.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email. I really enjoy building my own rods.
