Default First trip of the year

Travis Reeser and I went out to see if we still had the knack and we hit really good conditions- we got 24 jig bites between us- the most either of us has ever had. We were on a great roll of not missing any or loosing any, but after going around the slough once and realizing the bite was really on, we decided to go around one more time, fishing much deeper into the cover this time. On the second run, all the fish we hooked were deep, deep in cover so we did start loosing some. I broke off three in a row despite my best efforts not to and we each lost a couple gorillas! Most of our fish were in the 4 to 6 pound range, but we managed one that went 8-2- the only one we weighed. The smallest were around 2 1/4 pounds. What they lacked in gut they more than made up for in shoulders! A few of the pics:

A record day for sure! They all look big and healthy to me.Looks like it was a nice day weather wise to boot.If that doesn't get you excited I don't know what will.Oh when you say 24 bites I believe you.Plan and simple you put the on them.We have only scratched out 5 fish this year so far.Biggest a smidge under 4.Great job to you and Travis.Did you have first crack or were you in the back of the boat all day?

Well, to all of these nice compliments, I would say that we really did hit this perfectly, and by pure luck- the weather, the water, the moon- the slough had had pretty light fishing pressure- could make anyone look good. Nothing compared to the difficulty of many of the catches made by guys on here in the past.

LOL! There were lot's of geese around- but yeah, the fishing was kind of like that on this day. I think the most bites we have ever had on this slough was like 6 or 7. Thanks for all the kind words, guys, and Travis thanks you all, too- good fishing to all!

Looks like a great day of fishing for bass, anywhere. Guess I'll make it a point to talk to Travis about it next time I see him at church .

Bill Dance--he must be of my generation. I wonder if Dave Smith has considered making a duckling or gosling top water bass lure? Can you imagine how that one would sell to the big fish crowd--worthy of 30 minute infomercials. "Now the lifelike craftsmanship sought by waterfowlers is available to trophy bass fishermen, BUT for a limited time only." Maybe add leg bands to the trophy models as an attractant.
