Default Herring jigging this weekend

Thinking about going down and getting some herring in Newport. Anybody else going down? Are there any good crab spots in the bay?

Never mind, just found out that this weekend is the seafood and wine fest. Too many people that are too drunk to drive for me.

Well yet another change in plans. I was just informed by the wife that we will be going down she wants fresh hering to fish with. So I hope to see some of ya down there.

Hey Fish_on. There's a bunch from the Saltwater Parish going, S & W or not. The herring are over by the green tank and the crabbing stinks. We are hoping for a calm ocean so we can get some good crab outside the bay.

If not, well the Rogue brewhouse is right by the dock.

Fish_On,
Pilar is right, lots of herring to be had over by the green tank and the concrete ship. Last weekend when we were there we simply tied up to the pillars and we slaughtered them. And yes the crabbing stunk... but we did end up with 13.
Good luck with all those PEOPLE....

Do you have to catch the herring on the incoming at dusk or do they hang around all day?

I'm looking to head up there for some herring and crabbing with my two boys. Sounds like a few Ifish members will be around. I'll be there in a 21ft red Maxxum sled. Say hi if ya see me!

Let us know how you do. I wanted to go down but my husband has to work Saturday, and only gets Sunday off. I don't like driving that far for one day. Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll head down.
