Default 3 FISH LIMIT?

if it is a 3 fish limit for steelhead, does that allow you to keep angling for your last steelhead if you have already filled your 2 fish limit for salmon.

example

may 5,2002 you are fishing on the clackamas and catch two springers, can you continue to fish for your last fish, a steelhead?

legally? cant find where it states that you can't. three fish limit is in effect until july 11th.will the odfw make a rule change to allow 3 finclipped chinook too? we have more of them returning than any winter steelhead. shouldn't it be 3 too?

You should be able to keep fishing for that last/third fish/steelhead.

Yep, the regulators have done it to themselves. The recently implemented rule that you could not continue angling for jacks after retaining an adult limit was meant to stop people from continuing to fish and handing off their pole when an adult salmon was hooked(whoever lands the fish, tags the fish)will not make any difference this spring. Four guys in a boat with seven adult salmon on board, will all be able to continue fishing under the guise of angling for steelhead, since you are allowed three steelhead or a total of three in combination with salmon.
Just think catch and release of salmon will now be legal even for a boat that has limited. Nonstop fishing.(We can Dream)
I guess all lines will legally be in the water until the boat limits. Anglers will only have to stop when they have added a steelhead to their catch.

should make finclipped chinook limit 3 as well.we didn't catch even 15% of all the springers that entered the columbia last year. and i won't even mention how terrible it was for those fall fish in the columbia.
