Default Another new Kokanee record

Looks like the Oregon State Kokanee Record fell again yesterday . A woman from Enterprize fishing Wallowa lake landed a 8.26lb 351/2" length 161/2"girth Kokanee .The fish was landed using a Macks Double Whamie. It is quite possible that the world record could be broken this year.

35 1/2 inches, should have weighed alot more than eight pounds and change. Typo maybe, more likely 25 1/2 inches. Those fish are pigs

Fishermanjack and I are heading there the first week of May for 3 days, I can't wait. I do wish there where more resent posts about Wallowa lake as we have never fished there before, but we do go over there every year for the bike rally and stay with friends in town

WOW

I'm not much of a koke fisheman but the few I've caught were absolutely nuts on light gear. I couldn't even imagine one that big fighting similarly

With all due respect...As a new record fish, you would think she would get a better picture than that.

Nonetheless that thing is HUGE

Here's the ODF&W release http://www.dfw.state.or.us/news/2010/march/033010b.asp It would be a new National record, but the current World record is over 9 pounds caught in BC Canada.

You probably won't see a lot of posts from over there. Having grown up there I can tell you that they are usually pretty closed mouthed about their fishing techniques etc. I can't even get my brother to unload and he still lives there and fishes every week until harvest time...

This article link is from the Oregonian, They are saying 26.25" length 16" girth 8.23#

Wasn't being negative...Maybe jealous but not negative...Just saying, it's a once in a lifetime thing, why not make the most of it?

That fish is larger than the average Kegan Creek (SE Alaska) sockeye.

That is one monster of a kokanee for sure! And where there's one, there's more that are still growing. I'd love to see more of that size. Heck, even a "mere" seven pounder is a hawg!

Beaut fish! Thanks for posting the info and picts.

There, there Kent. You know fishing is a disease. It doesn't mean you are a bad person, only a sick person. Hopefully, by the grace of God, one day at a time, you can make it to Wallowa Lake.

My wife & kids and I happened to pull into the "Sports Corral" in Joseph that day and Wan and her husband had just caught that record and just had it weighed. It was 8.23 lbs. and they were'nt even going to stop, but her husband decided to pull in and Larry put it on his scale and informed them about their ownership of the record. He convinced them to go to the supermarket and have it officially weighed and also to go back to the lake to get another pic. I came into the store from fishing right before they left town and met them. What an incredible fish!
Larry was telling them about a guy in Bend that would mount the fish for free, but they didn't like the notion of not eating it. Don't know what they decided.
It was a slow day fishing. They caught three fish all day and one was the record. We only caught two that day. Fifteen fish for three days for us and 4 lbs. is as close as I got to the record. Good luck for all going over. There's also some 27" rainbows being caught if you don't mind powerbait and can put kokes on the back burner. I couldn't
