Default Sitka Silvers...

I may be heading up to Sitka early this fall to visit a friend, probably 2nd week of Sept. which seems to be prime time for silvers. He has a 22 ft. Boston Whaler, which should give us access to some streams at tide water. He commercial fishes up there but wants to hook some silvers on the fly rod.

Anyone fished up in the Sitka area for silvers who can offer some words of wisdom?? PM's great if need be.

Cheers,
CS

I had a guest bring a fly rod on my boat one time. we were mooching out of Craig for salmon, moving real slow. he had a full sinking line and a needle fish pattern. i had him put it out about 50 ft or so. and just twitch it. rolling 6 in waves down the line. as i terned it sank deeper and when i straightened out it came closer to the top. he caught all five species of salmon limits of cohos lots of pinks a king a couple of soceye and one steelhead.this was mid july though.

I went to Sitka 2 years ago - last week of August. after fishing the ocean all day we went to "Stargazer Creek" north of town( as far as you can go) I brough a 5wt travel rod for Hummpys, I caught quite a few 6/10 lb Silvers at the mouth of that creek! we were throwing anything Pink( for the Pinks) but the coho were also hammering them... lots of fun on a 5wt! keep an eye on the Brown bears though.. we had a big sow come by close to check out the action............
