Default 1997 8hp mercury

I have a 2 stroke merc that I run on my drift boat. I was going through doing a few tune up things with the help of an outboard repair manual. Everything is good except I cannot find what the gap for the spark plugs should be set at. I have read through it a bunch of times but am either over looking it or it is not there. If anyone has the answer that would be great, thanks.

Out of curiosity I went out and looked at my 2002 2 stroke 8hp Mercury and the data sticker does not look like the one shown on the Mercury Maintenance site. I bought this motor from Stevens Marine in 2007 and it has run flawlessy. I just got off of the phone with the mechanic at Stevens Marine and he advised that the plug gap for the 8hp 2 stroke is .040 and he also said that this plug gap is for all of the 8hp 2 strokes regardless of year. They are great to deal with and you might want to give them a call to verify this information. Have a good day. Richard aka (hilaker)
