Default Salmon Fishing Willamette (for Bass?)

Well hit the Willamette for Springers at first light Sunday AM with Talk2Elk. Put on a prawn spinner and went through one of our productive holes from last year. First pass through he gets a bite but questions what it was?? About 2 minutes later I get a tap tap, drop the tip.....feel weight.....set the hook.....snap! My Lami Kenai King breaks in half.....I keep reeling...fish still on but ???? doesn't feel right. Reel up and have a 3-4# small mouth bass. Ouch on the pole!

We get me a new rod set up. Talk2Elk puts on a blue herring and we go through the same spot. His pole...tap tap tap....set the hook....another bass!!!!

Well at least I got 1st and biggest. We did see one nice Lady out by herself land a nice chromer. We asked if she needed help but she had it well handled and boated a nice 20#er.

I have Pics but can't get them to upload. I can Email if anyone wnats to see and post?? And by the way, for all you Bassaholics I apologize, but darn that Bass tasted good!! Yum Yum.

Titelines,

Bob

Your not the first. I have talked to several people who have caught bass while trolling for springers.

Every year while i'm bass fishing I manage to hook 1 or 2 springers. On 8lb test and a light rod it's one heck of a fight. This last spring I was even able to land one ( first time ever on 8lb test ). Thanks to a super nice guy who followed me around for 15 minutes to net it for me. To the old gentlemen in the p-14, thanks again.

Now for an important question. Where were you hooking the smallies?

I'm still perplexed how you broke a rod of that weight on a bass. Must have really slammed him.

SandySteel.......I agree with you but sheesh you would think a 'premium' rod would be made to handle such things  Doesnt make me want to run out and buy a lamiglas, thats for sure

I caught a trophy smallie about two years ago in the Mult Channel on a K-13.
