Default 15' stryker flotation cubes question

To someone out there that may have experience in this area:

My stryker has flotation cubes screwed down to the back deck. Are they necessary to make sure my 60 merc stays above water if flooded? I have seen 15' Talons without them. I asked the owner about one and he claimed that the dealer told him that if flooded it will float without them. He only had a 40 merc on his boat. I think my motor is about 90 # heavier. It would be nice to get rid of the cubes to get more room. If the answer is questionable flotation then they stay in the boat! Does anyone have experience with this question?

Thanks in Advance

required by law to sell the boat. Do you want them in? it is your boat now. How many do boats do you hear sink?

removal saves some floor space

State law must require it to be impossible to sink at purchase. I calculated they are about 165 lbs of flotation. I think I will be taking them out if there is any styro under the floor.

Thanks

I have a 17' Talon and have removed the boxes. The boat seems so much bigger without them. There is flotation on my boat in the back corners and along each side of the fuel tank under the floor. My thought is that if the boat takes on a lot of water then there is only so much those two boxes will contribute to the flotation. I am willing to take that chance.

The only thing that really makes me concerned is what the insurer would say if something happened and they knew I had removed flotation. Don't know if it would be a problem or not and I don't know that I will ask either.

I wonder if we could get a comment on here from an insurance broker about the removal? I would be very interested.
