Default merwin lake / yale?

I'm torn for this saturday If I should take the family out on the columbia or if there is kokes to be had up at the lakes, this would be my first trip really targeting kokes, would prefer merwin if its worth the trip, As a first timer I'm looking for some one to lead the blind to where the fish are as I wouldn't know where to start looking this time of year IE. (speelyai bay, campers hideaway, west end, an X on a picture ...any help anyone is willing to give to speed up my locateing what part of the lake(s) to start on

thanks Steven

I am going to head up that way on Sunday and am looking for the same kind of input. I am pretty new at this fishery and any input will be greatly
appreciated. Taking my 14ft. smokercraft.

We are taking a cannon minitroll downrigger, wedding rings, worms and corn. Anything else you can think of that will help to get us on the bite is very welcome.

I will post a report on how we did when we get back.

Peace, Tom

Splash, thanks for the link. I think we are going to try Yale in the AM. Do you think the same tactics will work there?

Looking foward to learning how to fish these waters.

Peace, Tom

Wish I could help you with Yale but I haven't fished it in years. There was a thread recently about someone fishing it. I'm heading out the door to work and might not be able to post in time before you head out in the am. If work allows I will try and do a search for you.

Good luck.

I'm heading up to Yale this morning. Hopefully the water is up from last week, when there was only two feet of the dock in the water. If not, I guess I will have to go to Merwin. Hopefully fishing will be as great as the weather--which won't take much to beat last week's storm! I will post later where I ended up and how I did. Still don't have great hopes for this early.

Went out on Yale this morning for about 3 minutes. It was waaaay too windy. The swells were about 2 1/2 feet, and constant. There were a few other boats already out, or going out when I showed up and we all got off the water around the same time.

I went to straight down to Merwin since the wind isn't as bad there...so did most of the rest of the boats. There was probably 20-25 boats out there. Still slow, though. I saw one fish caught and heard about another. Maybe more was caught, but I didn't see them or hear about them. I was marking plenty of fish, though, between 20-30 feet.

I was hoping to catch fish, but my main purposes in going was to test out my Trolling Speed Indicator; also to run my motor and make sure it was okay. It was giving me trouble last week and I wanted to make sure it was fine before heading to the coast tomorrow...which I can't wait for!

Very windy yesterday making for a bumpy fishing time . I got there about 12 and off by 3pm with a limit of 11-13" kokes . Had a great time but sure got wind burnt . Red/silver wedding rings tipped with corn and sauce behind a sling blade was the ticket at 14ft on the downrigger. I was gonna go again today but the wind is bad up here again. Good luck if you go but be careful.

all of ours were caught on anything green like Sgt.slaughter said, they hit hoochies, wedding rings, and apex's equally and they were all green or had green on them. what a blast let the new addiction begin

Went up to Yale park this morning. There were just three other rigs in the parking lot.
Started trolling straight out from the ramp and after five minutes my pole goes off. I was flatlining a red wedding ring behind a slingblade tipped with shoepeg. I was a long way back and it came unbuttoned half way in. Nothing but rain for the next hour then I got hit again twentyfive feet back trolling silver willowleaf with half ounce lead and wedding ring with corn. Another long line release. My buddy had bad raingear, got soaked and called it off.

We learned a few things for the next trip. Saw one small fish boated.

Peace, Tom

Went to Merwin Sunday. Caught two, lost two a few other hits within the first 90 min. Then it went dead. Rain and lots of fog. Still a good day on the water.

Did not see any fish caught in other boats. About 15 boats on the lake. Talked to a couple other boats when I was coming in. They had nothing.
