Default This ever happen to anyone else?

I spent the day on the Willy with Fishfreak and Fishfinder1 fishing for sturgeon. Fishfreak was letting line out when his rod dipped hard and started pealing line off of his reel. In question he reeled back up after it let go and sure enough we found puncture marks across the smelt. It appeared to be from a springer. I have heard about this happening but have never wittnesed it. After a slow bite we ended up with a nice 43" gator.

We heard that a boat was hit at the mouth of the Willamette by a barge. Can anyone verify this? As busy as it was it would not surprise me. We had to pull anchor once to get out of the way up near St. Johns.

Almost like mooching in the river instead of the ocean.

Yes this happened to my father inlaw and I 2 years ago fishing for sturgeon with smelt. We were down fishing by the mouth of the Sandy when this happened. We had the fish hooked for about 5min. before he lost it.

We were fishing winter steelhead with Jack Glass several years ago on the Sandy, fishing was slow we had caught two, when Jack asked if we would like to try some Small Mouth fishing with ultra lite gear in the Columbia. We were hooking Smallies when my nephew hooked a small Chinook on a grub. We had a pretty exciting several minutes and landed the fish.

I had this happen Saturday during the derby. My pole took a hard double dip. And I mean pound down! Grabbed to set the hook, nothing. Reeled up, and yup, nice punture marks in the smelt still on the line. Never seen a sturgeon bite like that, I can only assume it was a springer. Everything else had a soft bite that day.

Me and a friend hooked two chinook in OC shad fishing with the little green grubs within a half hours. I think it closed the day before. Would have been nice. Brite fish too.
