Rod Building
From reading many posts I see that there are many IFISH fishermen -Fisherwomen that either want info on rod building or have built rods and so on.There are also a few questions regarding rods for certain purposes. I.E. Plug pulling, side drifting etc. I am curios to see how many of you would attend a one day get together on rod building simplicity issues as well as a full look at many rod models and blanks this way everyone could select items to their preferences and get all the information they would need to make informed questions and opinions regarding these topics.(TH) I am asking you also to help put this thing in the works if people would be interested in the knowledge of it all.We can rent a hall or a lodge room at one of the state or county parks up on the Clackamas. We could use some cooks and volunteers also as we could bring a meal etc and make a great day of it. Interested in seeing the opinions.Lyle Froyd

I would be interested in participating. For my Birthday this year I asked for and have recieved the funds to build a rod, I just have yet to decide what I want to build.
Let me know when.

Re: Rod Building
No way that I am coming! Everytime I get next to a professional rod builder I seem to come away around $200 shy. Just kidding.
I got to know three different rod builders spending 5 days at the show last week and boy did I learn some things about building rods. I never understood the fascination with custom built rods when factory rods were available. I asked Lyle to show me the difference between his custom rods and say a factory Loomis IMX. Wow!! For personal use, I don't think that I will ever buy a factory built rod again.
If you guys spend an evening with Lyle and Travis I bet you will feel the same also.
ps I have some Loomis rods for sale. Any buyers?

Re: Rod Building
Sounds like a good deal! Keep us posted on the times you are thinking of . Just an idea but most pizza places have rooms off to the side that would work for groups under 25 or so. If we used these no one would have to cook. And they are usually free.

Re: Rod Building
I would be up fo it. I had not built a rod for years and then this year I built one for my brother for Christmas. Now I'm wanting to build a few more, it would sure be nice to get a few blanks a discount price. Any one know where to get good prices on blanks?
Thanks fishalot

Re: Rod Building
When we hit a confirmed 30-40 I can get a factory spokesperson and demo rods and blanks and components from,Sage,G.Loomis,Lamiglas,Rainshadow and Fall River Rod co....Also Th custom rods.So tell a friend and so on and so on and so on,then they will tell 2 friends and so on and so on and so on.Hit Eagle creek with a Favorite client of mine and it was low and clear but producing fish.We fished a few hours at the second ladder and did pretty good for the conditions.Today there were 12 boats at the clack/willamete seam and all hit springers one boat hit six....Here they come....Lyle

Re: Rod Building
I am going to hold a 2 day rod building class in April.Teaching just the basics.......
For $100.00 you will get a First Quality Blank,All the Quality Components to build your rodand for those who do not finish in 2 days can finish the rods at my Smaller Shop Where we epoxy handles and Finish Coat rods.If interested just email me and I will start a list...I would still like to have The full blank and Components expo but i think we will wait until lrods@lrods.com l late spring maybe a few more will decide to come.I have 5 major reps wanting to give info when and if we can get enough people together.Attending will be:G.Loomis,Batson,Lamiglas,Talon,Sage and possibly one other.I pulled out the favor book and jerked the strings so email me if you want to do this and I will get it set for late spring. As for the rod building class I will take the first 10.

Re: Rod Building
We are planning on attending the next ifish swap meet, in June I believe, we will have rods, components, and offer "how too", "tips" etc. and complete rod kits available to those interested.

Re: Rod Building
I am very interested and would need to know dates times so I can make a for sure commitment. Perhaps a list of incidental helpful items, materials, tools etc. that would also be helpful. Is it a one person per one rod class, or can I bring my significant other to help me with the thread ? Thanks!

This sounds great!! I would like to attend as well, but hopefully this will come to pass on a weekend, otherwise I won't likely be able to make it work.

Yes, I have one more for your class. Husband wants to do it and I will pay (early birthday present). Let me if we made the class, when and where. Thanks.

Re: Rod Building
I stopped by Lyle's shop today to see how my order was coming. The rods look great of course. I asked him why he hasn't responded to this post and it seems that Jennie has removed him from the board for "advertising" reasons. I will not take sides as I don't know the whole story and it's not my business. However, if you are interested in in contacting Lyle about this post or anything else, please e-mail him to the link above.
