Default Crescent 3/14

The winter mack bite is starting to change. I took friends Mike and Jerry out with me today. After about an hour my rod went off first. As I was bringing him in he managed to swim into Mike's line because Mike could'nt get his line out of the dr clip and we had a very major tangle. I had to hold my line on the fish end while Mike worked on the tangle. It took about 15 minutes and I kept the kicker in gear while the line was still attached to a very unhappy mackinaw 100 feet down. We finally got him in. Not very big, but a decent 1st fish of the day.

Mike and I each got another one about the same size.

Jerry just could not interest any macks today. Mike finally got another one about noon. His personal best at 17 lbs. Weighed him and sent him on his way back to the bottom.

That was to be it for the day for us. Talked to 2 other Ifish boats and neither had gotten a fish to the boat so we felt fortunate to scare up 4. 16 degrees at sun-up and 48 by 3:30 when we took out. Another beautiful winter day on Crescent.

Nice work Joe and company, nice fattie We had 2 bumps first thing this morning but neither hooked up. The winter pattern has definitely shifted from what we saw over the past two months

I think it's just about time for me to be plying my local waters as the weather begins to warm while waitng for the Brown Trout lakes to open up again.

Great job again on the macks and it was good to share the waters with you and Klamanite today. Hope to see you at the LBC Trout Fest next month

Good to see Klamanite & Fish-on-Bend out on the same waters on Sunday. Jimmy and I focused the majority of our time for the Browns, and it finally paid off in Spades for Jimmy with his 6lber. (on another thread on here). We did give the Macks a few hours of our time, but to no avail. That's why they call it Trout Trout HUNTING I suppose.
Way to Go, Joe! Those are some nice Lakers. I would have been tickled with that FAT 17lber any day!
Later boyz,
CBTH

It's good to see these fish getting hungry. Is there camping open in the area yet?

You can rent a yurt located in the 1st campground from the lodge for $30. They will shuttle your gear over the dam to the yurt for you. April 1st the forest service opens the gate to the main launch and all campgrounds should be accessable snow conditions permitting.

I got a response from the manager today...$30/night, sleeps 5. I've sent the word out to the kayak fleet that it's time to chase some macs.

Unhappy Re: Crescent 3/14

I talked with the F.S. and the lodge today and it seems VERY questionable as to when the gate is actually going to open.

For you guys that hit crescent a lot I have a question. As we approach summer when the lake turns over when typically in both water temp and time of year terms, do the macs move into the shallows? back in Wyoming we would be able to sight fish for them int he early parts of summer and I cant imagine that its to different here.

I have seen them chase lures while fishing from the moorage at the resort. It was memorial weekend. I was standing at the far end of the dock and casting as close to shore as I could. Dont know if this helps? Could not get a strike, but is exciting to see 30" of fish that close to chasing your stuff!
