Jigs work great for steelhead & salmon. If you want a free sample jig, drop me a line. Do a search on jigs and you'll find tons of information on this discussion board.

This is the first year I have fished a bobber and jig for steelhead, actually I just started 3 weeks ago. First 2 times out caught five and lost a few more. I was amazed! Always make sure to try it out every time out if conditions permit.
Pink and purple color combinations worked bestfor me.

Watched a guy on the Sandy just spank 'um with pink and white jigs and pink worm. He showed up after we had drift fished about 3 hours with no results. Hooked two in 30 minutes!
Guess what I will try next time.

If you're fishing water that is eight feet deep or less, a fixed float would be the easiest way to get started. One simple way to fish jigs is to use a round cork float and run your mainline through the cork and tie directly to the jig. Then take the orange plastic tab and jam it into the top of the cork next to the line. Move the cork up or down according to the depth you're fishing keeping the jig a couple feet off of the bottom. That is just one method of many to choose from. There is no right or wrong way to fish jigs, just different ways.

For winter steelhead, I like using 1/4th-oz jigs. This size jig will have enough weight to get down quickly and stay under your float. If you're fishing deeper, faster water, then you can add an in-line weight or split shot to your set-up. In most cases, a 1/4th-oz jig will work by itself.
