Default Trim and tilt switch

I have an older Yamaha 90 outboard. The motor wont raise using either the switch on the throttle or on the motor itself. It will lower, however. Will buying a new switch solve the problem or should I be looking at something else ? Thanks for the help..

do the easy stuff first....check all connections and fuses. if still nothing then run some jumper wire from a good battery directly to the tilt motor. if it works you have eliminated the motor. it seems odd that both switches dont work

sounds like you blew a seal in the hydrolics that push the motor up.
It will hold pressure to let gravity lower the motor but won't hold enough to raise it.
Pushing the "down" button when the unit is already down can shorten the life of the seals tremendously. Not saying that is what happened but it is a quick way for these seals to fail.

here is a way to test if it is a seal, or hydrolic related..
Get the motor in the up position and see how quickly the fluid drains off.
If it is fairly quickly you can start troubleshooting that area. If it stays up and solid then you are probably looking for an electrical glitch.
