Default Kwik Fish

Hi everyone,I was wondering if any of you have ever tried a bead chain and single treble off the center of a kwik fish instead of a siwash. Will it still work properly ??I've used a single siwash and have also used two siwash hooks but have never tried a single treble with a bead chain. What do you think will it be O.K.

At the seminar on springer fishing at the sports show Eric Linde showed us his suggestions for modifying kwiky's.

replace the stock treble on the belly hook with a swivel and a siwash. open the evye on the plug and slip off the hook and put the swivel on crimp the siwash onto the swivel. modify the tail end hook by just adding a swivel and replacing the hook. open the eye of the ring on the body of the lure, and cut the trailing hook where the shank comes off the weld line on the treble. Bend sideways and slip on the swivel and it should go back on and look like it was never off.

I personally put Owner trebles on mine. We went to Siwash last year and the damage they do is not worth the few extra fish that get landed in my opinion. They hook deeper and also tend to get in the eyes more than trebles. With having to release the nates this is a problem. We switched ours back to trebles after just a couple trips with the siwash. Not trying to start a debate, just what I saw last year.

Dawhunt, I was looking at the bead chain idea but depending on the current (if it is real light) it might not trail right behind the plug unless you put something on the chain to help it float. I think RT had a tip on this somewhere in the last year

I've tried using siwash on kwik/flatfish. Depending on the size of the plug, they sometimes won't tune at all. These plugs seem to be pretty sensitive to changes and I've just settled on fresh sharp trebles sized similar to the originals. I also have to agree with firedog about the siwash hook damage. Typically, to offset the lost weight of the treble you take off, you have to use a much larger siwash and I hate to see a big siwash point coming out of the fishes eyeball. I will change out to a siwash on a smaller plug like a wart, which will still run good and the size of the hook can be small enough to not wreck the fish.

Agreed on the Siwash hurting the nates. I switched out some of tads recently to the single hooks and they are mean, too MEAN! In many cases the hook went through clear to the eye of the hook! The Siwash took out the eye of one steelie and into the gills of another, luckily both were hatchery fish. Son!
