Default Min kota ?

I have a Min Kota Endura 30 motor which I have used for probley close to ten years in all kinds of conditions including salt water. This motor has been the best $89 I ever spent. Last time out I noticed that while running in high spee for a spell the positive battery clamp was gettin so hot the clamp cover was melting. I checked wire to clamp connection and re did. Same problem persists. Any idea why? Is it time to retire this unit or is there something I can do? Probley not cost effective to service ?

Have you checked the propeller to see if it rotates freely. No grass of fishing line tangled in it. Beyond that Ollie Damon's is your answerman. He knows these motor better then anyone and will give you an honest estimate of the cost to fix it. He's also a Ifish sponsor.

The prop was the first thing I checked though I forgot to mention it. Ollie Damon is an awsome shop. Honestly I never noticed they sponsor Ifish. I'm not known for my observation skills. I will contact them. They are honest for sure. My thinking was given the cost of most labor it might not be worth it. I see Cabela's has refurbished Minkota's starting at $89. Thanks again.

The Rheostats probably shot and teh unfortunate thing about those old motors is that they dont make that particular rheostat anymore. You can probably find them though an online search. I beleive this would be for those old minn kota's:

http://www.trollingmotorparts.com/de...reverse+Switch

If you cant find this switch anywhere you can use the new style rheostats, but will require some configuring; nothing a call to minn kota cant solve.

Good luck

The low end motors like you have sell for around $100; probably not worth repairing. For around $200 you can get one with what Minn-Kota calls maximizer; that will make your battery much longer as much as 5X.

If only the one battery clamp, cut off the clamp and put another one on. May be corrosion at the clamp connection(s).
