Default Best way to keep crawlers

I have tons of crawlers coming out of the cracks in my back patio and yard. I want to grab them all and start keeping them long term for fishing. Any suggestions on containers and fill dirt?

When I was younger, I decided that I would make a fortune selling worms. I used a galvanized wash tub and put tree moss in it. Kept it moist, and it worked great. By the way, my fortune didn't come but the neighbors always had worms to fish with.

Ditto Kelso,

Did the same thing, sold a fair amount to the city folks on their way to Detroit resevoir. Also put the tub in a good shady cool spot, poke drain holes in the bottom to drain off excess moisture, not so big the worms will crawl out though, we fed the buggers with old coffee grounds, they loved it, and the caffeine was a plus in making them more active. (go figure!) Oh yea don't forget to make the tub racoon proof!

Ah the good ole days when your tackle box consisted of a few #6 worm hooks and a tabacco or band aid can full of worms!

Why round up all of them now?

Even during the dog days of summer I can end up with as many as I want. All you need to do is water down the edges of your yard where it meets the driveway or sidewalk just before it gets dark. Make sure you water it really well and get the sidewalk wet too. Come back after dark and they will be all over the place. No need to buy them from the store or keep them for long periods of time.

I always used wet stripped up newspaper it helped keep the soil moist and the worms eat the paper. I also put moss on the top like said in a earlier post. I never had to buy worms and would always find som sucker on the river that forgot to bring worms and i would sell them a doz or 2 for a fair on the river price.

I have a can of store bought nightcrawlers that I bought last spring. Still in the original styrofoam container and bedding, I have dropped some coffee grounds in a couple times and just kept it in the refrigerator.

Why do u still have them almost a year ago LOL

I can stretch a dozen to 3 trips lately, during the summer i remember going through a dozen a day. But lately iv been finding earthworms at night after it rains. Depending on how many i get ill keep them in a kfc container or a old ice chest i buried and put dirt in
