Default Kelly point boat launch info request.

Ok, I can't take it anymore.Every post I read about Kelly point, you guys are catching keeper size fish.We have been fishing out of port of Kalama the last couple of years and catch fish, but very few keeper size.We are from the Sumner area and have never been into Portland. We really want to give this Kelly point thing a try.Would anyone be willing to share some info on the best launch to use as well as lodging recommendations.I recieved lots of great info when I asked about Bonneville last year, Thanks a lot, Chris

Thanks for the input Rick. I guess I should be more spcific. What I would really like to know of is the best launch on the Willamete, closest to Kelly point.Iv'e heard through this thread so many good things about the area.If anyone is local and knowledgable on hotels in close proximity, with ample parking for rig, boat and trailer, that would be very helpful to me.Thanks again, Chris

In Portland on the east side under the ST. Johns Bridge there is a free boat launch or you can cross the St. Johns Bridge and go north a few miles to Freds Marina and pay $8 to launch. Freds is a little closer to the mouth of the Willamette. You can see the St. Johns bridge on any map of portland. Basically if you are coming down I-5 take the Lombard Street exit and go west on lombard and watch for a small brown sign that says boat launch. You could probably find a number for Freds in the yellow pages and they could give you exact directions if you wanted them.

Both put you close to where you want to be. Just head for the mouth of the Willamette and look for the boats. A good anchor/anchor puller are a good idea. The other week 70+ seemed to be the magic number along with fresh smelt.

C.P. , The launch you are looking for at kelly Point is probably Cathedral park. It is on most maps of the St. Johns area. It is free and approx. 3 or 4 miles to the west. Fred's Marina is closer, but you pay to launch. Good Fishing, Propwash
