Question Mercury 175 Sport jet help

hi there i just got a boat off of a buddy of mine and its been sitting a while it has a 1997 mercury sport jet 175hp jet drive motor in it. it turns over but does not start unless i spray a little starter fluid in the carbs but even then it only burns whatever is sprayed in there... so i know the motor is getting spark but no fuel...long story short i took some fuel lines apart to see how far fuel was getting and it gets all the way to the carbs but doesn't seem to have much pressure although i dont know how much it is supposed to have but it only is a slight trickle even right out of the fuel pump(or at least i think its the fuel pump its an electric one could just be an electric primer) any help with this motor would be great i'm new at this this is my first boat, but i'm pretty decent with fixing motors as long as i know whats wrong. so any help would be great what does it sound like to you guys?

also i'm looking for a downloable manual for this motor has anyone found one that i dont need to purchase off the internet?

Stop spraying starting fluid in there. A two stroke needs oil / gas your spraying stright either in there. Good way to shell a motor in short order.

Likly a fuel pump issue if it's been sitting. You might try hooking a fuel bulb and priming with that and see if it will hold pressure and start.

Later,

Chris

I believe the electric fuel pump is only for starting.Doesnt put out much fuel. Then a mechanical pump takes over. But I would have to look to be sure.

That thing should have a water fuel seperator.A filter that screws into the pump. And another filter behind the engine mounted oil resevoir.I would make sure they are all good.

I'll do some more checking to see what I can figure out for you.

Yep,the electric pump shouldnt excede 4 psi and only while cranking.

Could be a bad antisiphon valve.

There are ways to test them.

thanks alot i thought the electric one was more of a primer i did replace the fuel filter behind the oil resevoir with a new clear one and wen i do get the motor started you can see fuel rush through it like its sucking more fuel but only runs for a very short time i do know where the mechanical fuel pump is it looks very similar to the one on my sea doo jet ski but didn't want to take it apart incase it was not the problem seeing as i would have to order new diaphrams and ect. if i ruined them takeing the pump appart does it sound like that pump could be bad? durring my time troubleshooting i did take the fuel line apart after the filter which is after that particular pumpand didnt get any fuel while i turned the engine over only when i let go of the key did a little fuel trickel out wich i figured was from the electric one

Is the enrichner valve working?
You should be able to hear it click if your standing by the motor and have somebody turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine. If it doesnt click you can push down on the top of it to activate it manually.

It allows fuel to flow out of the top carb bowl.Down into the bottom 2 carbs.

i do hear clicking after truning the engin over its comeing from some type of valve that takes one hose and splits it into 3 i also made sure it wasn't clogged up with any gunk and unplugged the 3 hoses comeing out , then turning the engine over and watching fuel trickle out at about the same pace it flows out everywhere else i tried
