Default Newport 2/7

I took my 9 year old to Newport yesterday for crab. The weather was absolutely horrible. High wind, snow, rain. He was a real trooper, too, never complained. We got 9 very nice red rock crab, and one dungness, threw back countless smaller crabs and female dungness. We were using a big old carp we got last summer for bait. I almost had to call out for work today, too. On the way back, I was checking the road reports on the radio, and 126 was closed, 20 was closed, and 101 was closed near Cloverdale. Okay, I thought, all of my alternate routes in case 22 is closed, are closed. 22 better be open. We got up to the pass and...... Closed!!!!! We were totally hemmed in by closed roads. So my son got out and made snowmen on the side of the road. I was just about to turn around and head back for Lincoln City and get a motel room, and call out for work, when the road opened up again. Bummer. Now I'm at work, instead of on the coast. I should have turned around sooner. It was truly amazing. When we drove over in the morning, it was a nice day, just light showers and no snow on the ground. When we came back, 6 inches on the ground and the snowplows working, and the tow trucks removing jacknifed trucks and cars in the snow drifts. Just goes to show the weather man must be running for office because he's been lying now for a long time. I'm glad I have my son dress to be able to handle any weather nature throws at him.
