Ifish/OKUMA contest?
I have a couple of nice OKUMA rods to give away. However, I have two problems.
One, it costs me to send them out, and I don't have any spare rod tubes. It would be nice if the winner could pick them up in Portland, or at Marie's at Tillamook Bait.
Either that, or if someone has a spare tube or four, I'd sure be interested! Even cheapos! I could go get some PVC, and prolly will, but it'd be nice if I had one less thing to do.
Second, I like to have contests that last longer, a couple days or so... for bigger prizes such as this. I'm sick, and not feeling very creative. Dang, whatever I have is not like a cold, I just hurt all over and have a slight fever. :depressed: It's yucky.
Contests have to be well thought out, as you know. History proves that I've messed up a time or two!
Does anyone have any fun ideas for a contest?
If so, post them here, and I'll review them. If it's a really hot one, and you don't want people to know yet, e mail me!
Only thing that is mandatory is that Uglygreen cannot win them. (This is a joke!) He wins everything off of ifish. Man, the guy can fish, take pictures, and fish some more. Off with his head! He wins too many prizes! I know! He can be the official ifish judge from this day, forward!
Nah... He's playing too, so make it good!
Off to make more tea. Get those creative juices flowing, and let me know what you come up with!
Jen

The answer is 17.
Do I win, I was the first to post, and I beat Uglygreen!

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
Jennie I think you should give the rods away to whomever picks up the most trash on one of our needy rivers that way its a win win situation! Or maybe you could have a treasure hunt and give out clues over a period of a week or two? Hope you feel better soon jenny. Ive got the crud too and of course its a beutiful spring day outside! :depressed:

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
Jennie, how about some kind of "bigger or better" contest like my old church youth group used to do. There have been several post recently about people who know kids that would like to get into fishing, but may not have the ability to get quality gear. How about people offer up items to donate to needy 'future fisher-people' and then at the end of a time period, Ifishers could vote on a poll about who has offered the best items, and they will be the winners of a rod. That way, there will be a number of people that "win".
Hum...I think I explained it well enough...maybe

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
Good idea Taildragger So how about a river clean-up day? Of course this should be part of every fishing trip but if we had a fun contest and incorporated a nice rod/reel into it then maybe that would entice people to participate.
I can get some more of those nice trash bags from Oregon Trout which we could number. Then at the end of the clean-up day those participating would have their number placed into a drawing.

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
I like the idea Twitches is thinking of. Some sort of future Ifisher/youth program. That or you could have a race....first person to make it to the new Fred Meyers in Palmer, Alaska.

Or maybe a mentor program where the experienced share with the un-experienced. Reward those who share down the line.

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
Jennie,
I like the ideas about helping a youngster out. Another thought, if you want to hang on to the rods that long, is auctioning them at/for the toy drive in December. You could post a thread with pictures (a thread for each rod), set a time limit, and then open bidding. The money would be designated for the toy drive for the kids at Emmanuel. Just a thought. Also, I have a square box that I had a rod shipped to me in. I can leave it on your porch, if you need it.
Mike

Re: Ifish/OKUMA contest?
What about a "take a kid fishing day"? I'm not sure how you would administer it, but the timing would be great with all of the stocking going on right now. Put'n'take is a great way to introduce kids (aka next generation of i-fishers) to our passion. The action pretty much guarantees to hold their interest. Maybe a short story by the kid(s) about what they enjoyed about the day? Mods - you up for judging something like that?
