New Ambassadeur EON reel
Has anyone used the new ambassadeur EON reel. I have been seeing ads for them and went and checked one out today, "Not Impressed" for a reel that costs $119.
There was alot of plastic on it which could be both good and bad. The drag adjustment is a large plastic knob near the handle that is easy to work but had a real cheap feel. Also the reel action did not feel very smooth, the one I felt actually had a slight jerky feel to it. The casting mechanism also was somewhat hard to press down and didn't have a quality feel to it.
All in all not a bad looking reel but I don't spend that kind of money on looks. Anyone used one yet?

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
Dont waste your time. I have played with many of them and they are horrible. A lot of plastic, and not to mention that when you push the freespool button down, as you turn the handle to re-engage it, you can feel it click six times. That indicates that it is poorly built. It should click back almost instantaneously. Where did you look at one...if you talk to almost anyone at the Delta park Fisherman's they will tell you that it is not a very good reel. Also, the left handed reels come from the factory missing a piece. Spend your money on a curado, or a C4 Abu or spend a few more bucks and get a cardiff. Just my opinion...

I got one from Bass Pro shop's when they first came out, used it one time and sent it back, and got another Curado.

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
Had a friend from work tell me he had one and he brought to work the next day. I elt bad because when he showed to me a kinda laughed, thinking he was putting me on about the 120 bucks he spent. After he reassured me that he in fact spent 120 smackers to get this thing, I told him to take it back and spend the money on a 5501 (even though they are cheap, I think they are better built than the EON) and a bottle of Jaegermeister . Put the reel on your rod, fish and give me the bottle of Jaegermeister. When he does it, we will both be VERY happy.
IMO, don't waste your money on that reel.

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
I appears Garcia has hit a foul ball with this reel...
I believe your money is better spent on a C3 or C4.
A factory rep tells me that given all the promotion they are seeing to get this reel out into the market place tells him it will probably go away once they can sell what they have.
Beyond the valid problems described here, there are also problems with some of the line guides not operating properly and stacking the line on the spool or fouling at the line guide and creating a "professional overrun", ie. backlash.

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
Thanks for the info, I'll stick with the 5500 and 6500's.
Maybe they should give all those reels away to the bass fishermen!

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
i was at the sportsman show last night and saw one. asked the rep which had a fenwick decal on if he recommends it and the guy just about told me to buy it and find out. i next asked him why the gears are rough and casting thumb was rattling after i spun the spool forward and backward the guy was a real champ and mentioned maybe i shouldn't birds nest and i won't need the smooth feel.
if any of you guys go in today ask him if he's selling the gear or just being horse jocky carp fisherman.
sorry my little vent for ******* sales man.

Re: New Ambassadeur EON reel
No problems with mine. Damn steelhead won't leave it alone though. Guess I'll leave it at home next time I go salmon fishing.
I haven't had any problems with the reel, yet. I bought it for the light applications, plus I think Shimano is pretty much *%$*
Now Baaaaaa for me my little sheep.
