Default Roaring River

Anyone ever fish Roaring River Canyon above the falls..? I hear they designated it a Wilderness area recently. I also hear the resident trout are
chunky...... Hard to get to though.

Is that up above the hatchery, or is that a different canyon you're talking about?

Are you talking the Roaring river off the Upper clack? 10+ Years ago a few friends of mine were fishing up there and ran into a bear. Steelies used to find their way up to there and spawn below the falls. Beautiful area. I miss fishing steelhead on the upper clack.

He's talking about the Roaring River in the upper Clackamas basin. A lot of work over many years went into that wilderness designation, BTW. My wife and I were loosely involved (more her). I've never fished it. I bushwacked down to the falls about a dozen years ago; not easy (at least the way I went). I remember talking to the MHNF trail engineer later & she told me some of the largest old growth trees in the region are up there. All second growth where I was, though (I think; it's been awhile).

Was my "Go to" hole after Jim taught me to use jig and bobber, mostly 'cause that was about where you could expect to find fish and not people after I got off work.
