Question tip removal

today i picked up a decent 8'4 eagle claw for $3 at goodwill nice condition except the tip is missing the metal body is there but the top hoop is gone

so the question is whats the best way to remove it with out damaging the rod under the metal remainder of the tip

i ran tip removal through the search function and got nothing

u definetly don't want to get it to hot. im not a pro but i would start low then work up to enough heat to warm the glue enough that the tip should just slide off

yeah then if all els fails u can use the oxy acetaline j/k

but yeah i've also heard of people using a stove top and holding the tip close till it slides. so yeah one of those methods shoud work good for ya. i've only had to put a new tip on never take one off

mabey u could get ahold of TH Rods, i bet they know alot about that stuff

Here Is what I came up with about 10 years ago. First you want to be careful that you don't overheat the blank or it will delaminate. So the idea is to remove the heat/tiptop guide as fast as possible so it doesn't transfer its heat to the blank and ruin it. So here is how I did it. First you need a piece of wire or heavy paperclip and attach it to the tiptop. now on the other end of the wire/paper clip I attach a long and heavy rubberband. The wire is there to isolate the rubber band from the heat so it won't melt. Now fix the rod tip section so it won't move when you pull on the rubber band. Now you stretch the rubber band to put the tiptop under heavy tension and secure the other end of the rubber band. Make sure you are stretching the rubber band on the centerline axis of the rod. Now start heating the tiptop guide at the very tip of the guide. The heat will slowly migrate up the tiptop guide toward the rod and the heat will start to soften the epoxy/glue/cement. The moment the epoxy is soft enough the rubber band will yank the guide off the rod thus removing the heat from the blank. Be sure to not stand in front of the rubber band! LOL
I hope this helps.

I use an alcohol lamp so I can concentrate the heat at the tip of the tiptop. hair dryer might have too broad of an area.

most tips are put on with plain ol hot melt glue. Most of these will melt at around 300 degrees or less depending on the glue itself. Either a butane lighter or alchohol torch is enough. Simply hold the barrel of the tip over the heat source and using pliers put some pressure on it. When the glue gets close to its melting point the tip should slide off.
